Air-con failure causes chaos after it causes GWH’s phone and computer systems to be knocked out

An air conditioning malfunction caused chaos at the Great Western Hospital when it malfunctioned the phone and computer systems.

The air conditioning units that were supposed to cool the hospital servers stopped working, causing the room to overheat.

This caused all vital telephone and computer systems to stop working, meaning employees were unable to access appointment records, patients, answer phones, or call yesterday.

CEO Kevin McNamara praised the staff for enduring extremely difficult conditions and apologized for inconveniencing patients.

He described the problems as piling pressure on employees who are already dealing with many ongoing problems, such as Covid, the high emergency demand and staffing gaps.

He said “impressive team efforts” from several different departments at GWH meant many services were able to continue, but unfortunately some appointments were canceled at short notice.
