TikTok is testing a new “company registration” option to confirm company information in the app

TikTok is taking the next steps in its growing e-commerce push with a new one business registration option which will allow brands to list their business category on their profile, while also giving them early access to new business features.

As you can see in this screenshot, shared by a social media expert Matt Navarra (through Yasser Massod), some TikTok company profile managers are now able to access the new company registration option in the Business Suite settings.

As TikTok explains, this isn’t the same as a verification badge, in providing an extra layer of assurance and authority over your corporate identity. But by registering your business through this process, which requires the user to enter various additional business details, you can then view your business category on your TikTok profile, which will provide TikTok with another way to collect data on business users, also classifying pages. in different segments in the app.

This could help in the next stage of its ecommerce listings by better highlighting different businesses and showing them to relevant users. It could also help communicate what your business does and make it easier for profile visitors to drive buying action.

ECommerce is the next big step for TikTok. With short form videos offering fewer ad placement opportunities, TikTok must provide alternative means of generating revenue for creators, in order to continue posting their clips, instead of going to YouTube or Instagram, which have systems of more consolidated revenue sharing.

In-stream shopping has been the key avenue on this front for Douyin, the Chinese version of the app, which now generates the majority of its revenue from in-app direct purchases. TikTok is looking to follow suit, with expanding its eCommerce listings, as well as live streaming shopping, Shopify integration, and various other commerce related projects now well in the works for the fledgling video app.

Activity logging is a minor element in this respect, but the option to share your business category adds an extra layer of authority to your in-app presence while also communicating your offers to users better.

We asked TikTok for more details on the option and what the early access element entails and will update this post if / when we hear.
